We had a lot of fun with this session and can't wait to do another.

Well it's been a while.

A lot has been going on, unfortunately we haven't had much time to keep things up to date here. I'll post some highlights of the past couple of weeks in the near future. In the meantime Ellie will crush your head.

Some fun in the park.

On Friday we met the Beihl family at Europe Park and then moved on to PSU's Oval. All the kids were great, and we got a kick out of Carson's constant reply of "Barnacles!" every time we asked him to smile - he's a SpongeBob fan. Each one of these kids had such a great personality so it was more than a pleasure to spend the evening with them. Although, apparently we weren't suppose to be at PSU that night - they had some fancy dinner going on - but they were nice enough to let us go shoot a few shots out of everyone's way. Read more!

Quick update.

Take a look at the previous post. I've put up a before and after of Devin's senior yearbook shot. This is an example of some basic retouch we do for the prints that get ordered. At the smaller size it's a little hard to see what all goes into it, but the larger the print ordered the more that every little detail counts.

On a side note we are shooting some outdoor shots of four kids Friday night. Should be a lot of fun.

Trying things out

Since Jerime & I have been working on new lighting techniques, I decided to take our daughter out for a shoot this afternoon. As we've told a million people, the hardest kid to shoot pictures of is our own. Just as I suspected, she was less than cooperative, but I did the best I could. Above are just a couple of ones I pulled from our shoot. Next time I think I'll wait until after she's had a nap before trying to take her picture. Read more!

Motivation.

I guess you could say I've been motivated today.

I woke up today at 5 a.m. and left the house an hour later to take some pictures. I was hoping it would be foggy this morning, but no such luck. This morning was the first time I've seen the sun come up in, well, a long time. I'm not much of a morning person, although I would like to be. After 3 weeks of getting up at 6 a.m. 5 days a week for morning classes I may become a morning person yet.

I put this photo and a couple others up on flickr check them out and feel free to leave some feedback.

Another week another train pic.

Well I'm done with one week of classes and feel pretty good about it. I'll feel better when I'm a little further along in the semester though. I'm sure midterms will be her before I know it though.

This is another train picture taken several months ago. It's a Kansas City Southern train. Here is a little history on KCS, courtesy of Wikipedia, you might find interesting.

The Southern Belle was a named passenger train service offered by Kansas City Southern Railway (KCS) from the 1940s through the 1960s, running between Kansas City, Missouri and New Orleans, Louisiana.

The service was inaugurated on September 2, 1940. To promote the new train, KCS held a beauty contest to find Miss Southern Belle a young woman whose image would be used in advertising materials system wide. Local competitions were held before the train's launch in all of the cities that the KCS served. The ultimate winner of the competition, Margaret Landry Moore, was the winner of the local competition in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was selected as Miss Southern Belle at the final competition in New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 24, 1940. She briefly became a screen actress, being most famous for her cameo as Teresa Guadalupe in The Leopard Man (1943).

The last run of the Southern Belle was on November 2, 1969.

Sunday Morning.

Sunday Morning
Originally uploaded by 710 Photography

I took a drive this morning.

I've been preparing for early morning classes this past week by waking up early . Today I awoke and made it out of the house by 7am, all just to take some pictures.

I took a trip to the Veteran's Memorial here in town for the first time. Seeing how it was 7am Sunday morning I was the only one there.

It's all a bit overwhelming and a bit too easy to forget why those names are on the walls of the memorial. A bit too easy to take for granted the freedoms we have made possible by the sacrifices of others.

This picture is a reflection off a wall in front of the wall of names. The line on this wall reads;

"God grants liberty only to those who live it and are always ready to guard and defend it." Daniel Webster

What a packed house!

We had the pleasure of shooting FOUR kids this weekend and boy was it a full house! The Mason family stopped by on Sunday to have some portraits done of their four children; Erin, Elijah, Bernadette and Anselm. While it took some real talent to get a shot of all four kids happy at once, we did manage to do it! We also got some great individual shots. Right now we are busy processing all the images to put online, but we loved these so much we just had to post them. I hope the Mason's like what they see here and are excited to see the final images when we are done processing them.

Trains...

This is a picture of a KCS train that I took some time back. It was hauling what looked like blades for wind turbines or something of the sort (at least that's what Tara and I figured).

I thought it would be cool to take some pictures of because it was quite the sight. The cars from the train stretched almost an entire mile section. All the cars loaded with an identical load.

One thing you should know about this shot is I was laying in front of the train and the train was running. It wasn't moving and no one was in the train, but I guess they just leave them running on the weekend or something. It's a little intimidating laying in front of a running train especially when you can feel the vibration from the engine in the tracks.

Which speaking of this weekend Tara and I will DEFINITELY be shooting this weekend. We have a session booked for Sunday with four kids. It should be a lot of fun and challenging. I can't wait.

But Ellie wasn't having it. At least not earlier in the day when Tara caught her hiding in a corner with a bowl, spoon, and a carton of ice cream. I said at least she had the decency to get a bowl and spoon.

This is another shot from Sunday night. Ellie has her own way of posing and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Tara and I tried to go out and have some fun together shooting, but Ellie wasn't having it and we were loosing light fast. This picture pretty much reflects her mood throughout our little impromptu session. Pictures of other people's kids can be tricky at times but pictures of your own kids, now that's the challenge.

This is a shot of yours truly . It's a promo shot for a band that I'm in called The Murder Blues Band. Don't let the name scare you. It's all tongue and cheek and in good fun. Tara shot this one and I edited it. You can click on the picture and check it and two other shots of the band out on my flickr photostream.
